چکیده

The analysis of foodstuffs, such as rice, is of particular interest for nutrient elements present at high concentrations, and also for toxic elements such as cadmium that can be present at trace levels. The analysis is important to ensure product quality and safety, as well as determining product origin. Food scares related to contamination not only constitute a health risk but also undermine consumer confi dence. This can lead to lost earnings through reduced sales and loss of credibility through adverse publicity.

Quality assessment of INAA data for small-sized environmental reference samples.

Instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) was applied for the accurate and precise determination of minor and trace elements in small-sized aliquants (1 to 2 mg) of two certified reference materials (CRM), NIES No. 8 and NIST 1632c. Four laboratories used either comparative- or k0-INAA, or both, and repeated the analysis more than ten times for each CRM. Based on z-scores and zeta scores ...

Human urine certified reference material for arsenic speciation.

BACKGROUND Chemical speciation analysis is essential for the biological monitoring of inorganic arsenic exposure using urine as indicator medium. There is increasing demand for a certified reference material (CRM) of urine matrix for arsenic speciation. METHODS Urine (10 L) was collected from non-occupationally exposed Japanese males. We prepared 954 bottles of urine, each containing approxim...

Selective arsenic speciation analysis of human urine reference materials using gradient elution ion-exchange HPLC-ICP-MS

Arsenic speciation analysis was performed in two human urine certified reference materials (NIES No. 18 and NIST SRM2670a) and three human urine control materials (Seronorm, Medisafe and Lyphocheck). The samples were diluted 1 1 3 prior to analysis by gradient elution anion or cation exchange high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry...

An evaluation of extraction techniques for arsenic in staple diets (fish and rice) utilising both classical and enzymatic extraction methods.

Enzymatic extraction methods were evaluated with classical extraction approaches for the determination of arsenic in food. The extraction efficiency for total arsenic was determined by analysing CRM materials DORM-3 fish protein, NIES 106 rice flour and GBW10015 spinach. These were compared with total arsenic concentration determined using microwave-assisted acid digestion and ICP-MS. The total...

Certification for trace elements and methyl mercury mass fractions in IAEA-452 scallop (Pecten Maximus) sample

A marine certified reference material (CRM), IAEA-452, prepared with scallop (Pecten maximus) sample was recently produced by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and certified for trace elements and methyl mercury (MeHg). The Scallop (Pecten maximus) sample is commonly found and consumed seafood and is also used as bio-indicators for trace metal contamination in marine pollution studi...
